Senior Software Development Engineer , Stores Foundational AI - Rufus

We’re advancing LLM-powered shopping experiences for Amazon Stores by combining leading models with Amazon’s e-commerce expertise and customer insights. We’re looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to lead the design and optimization of systems that adapt, evaluate, and serve these models, making shopping more intuitive, conversational, and personalized.

In this role, you will tackle engineering challenges across LLM post-training, including reinforcement learning, and high-performance inference. You will build systems that enable a continuous feedback loop—learning from real customer interactions to improve models, evaluate their effectiveness, and bring better shopping experiences to customers. Working closely with scientists and engineers, you will accelerate experimentation and deliver reliable, cost-efficient post-training and inference systems at scale.

Key job responsibilities
* Lead the design and development of scalable LLM post-training systems, including supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning.

* Optimize inference for production serving, RL rollouts, and evaluation, improving latency, throughput, and cost efficiency.

* Build a continuous feedback loop that turns real customer interactions into model improvements and better shopping experiences.

* Develop tooling to accelerate experimentation, evaluation, and deployment, with visibility into model quality and system performance.

* Partner with scientists and engineers to deliver reliable production systems, drive technical direction, and mentor engineers.
Qualifications: - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Experience with vLLM, SGLang, TensorRT or similar platforms in production environments
- Experience with CUDA kernels or ML/low-level kernels
Preferred: - 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Model fundamentals, including architecture, training/inference lifecycles, and optimization of model execution
